Sweet Potato Maple Soup

  1. Sauté onion and garlic in oil in a large saucepan over medium heat for 5 minutes until softened.
  2. Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and simmer 15 to 20 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
  3. Purée until smooth using a food processor, blender or hand blender.


Try other flavours of HEINZ® Beans. Original Beans with Brown Sugar & Bacon and the Original Beans in Tomato Sauce are both great.

Replace vegetable broth with chicken broth.

For a creamier soup, stir in 1 cup (250 mL) cream.

Add a drizzle of sour cream or maple syrup for a nice finishing touch.

Prepare a day ahead for convenience. It will thicken on standing so thin with additional broth to desired consistency.

  • 2 tsp (10 mL) olive or vegetable oil
  • 1 ½ cups (375 mL) chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 5 cups (1.25 L) peeled & diced sweet potatoes
  • 5 cups (1.25 L) vegetable broth
  • 2 cans (14 oz/398 mL each) HEINZ® Maple Style Beans with Pure Quebec Maple Syrup
  • ½ tsp (2 mL) ground ginger
  • salt & pepper to taste
